Have A Colourful And Healthy Holi With These 9 Useful Tips

Skin streaked with vibrant colours, long, lethal pichkaris and lots of smiling faces—these are usually the images that flash across your mind when you think of Holi.

A Holi without colours is no Holi at all.

But did you know that many of the colours you use during Holi can wreak havoc on your skin? Most colours that you find in the market are far from organic. They contain lead and mica that can be dangerous in high quantities.

This Holi, stay safe. Just follow some of these simple measures.

First things first, don’t wash your face with soap. It contains alkalines that accentuate dryness.

Apply coconut oil to your skin before going out to play. This is to ensure that colours don’t stick as much.

A thick layer of sunscreen is a must.

Fretting about your nails and lips? Just apply a layer of Vaseline or any other moisturizer before stepping out.

Drink lots of water. It helps your skin in warding off chemicals.

Once you’re done playing, apply a cleansing cream and wipe off the colours.

Make your own cleanser. Just add a teaspoon of til oil, olive oil or sunflower oil to half a cup of milk. Use cotton wool to cleanse your face and body with this miracle potion.

Add lemon juice to a mug of water and use it for a final rinse. This helps maintain the acid-alkaline balance that’s essential for the scalp.

Mix two tablespoons of honey with half a cup of curd and add a pinch of turmeric. Apply this mixture on your face, arms and neck. Wash it off with water after 20 minutes. This mix not only smoothens the skin but also fights unwanted tan.
