Heartbeat and Health
It is okay for people to have a fast heartbeat after a vigorous exercise or slow heartbeat when they are resting. But when heartbeat continues to be irregular at
uneven intervals or when you feel giddiness and contraction suddenly then you may be in need of a pacemaker.
Pacemakers are electronic devices made of titanium which is a biodegradable material. Pacemakers are used to cure arrhythmias which means slow, fast or
irregular heartbeats. People generally get a pacemaker in their heart when they are in their 20's, 30's or at a later stage but the most common category falls in 60
year olds and above. A defibrillator, on the other hand, is used to give electric shocks when the heartbeat is running abnormally. In an implantable cardioverter
defibrillator (ICD), a small device is placed in the heart that works as a pacemaker, literally keeping the pace of the heart. Since it all involves electricity, a basic question may arise that
'Can the people who are implanted with pacemakers use electric cars?' An online journal Annals of Internal Medicine published a report after doing thorough research. It found out that people implanted with pacemakers can drive electric cars with absolutely no fear. A cross-sectional study involving electromagnetic radiation of the cars was simultaneously monitored with the person's heartbeat, and electric cars were driven at variable speeds. The person's heartbeat was recorded at various postures like sitting on the right, left, back and lying. The study found that electric cars do not have any effect on a person's heartbeat and it matched with the person having no pacemaker at all.
Electric cars are increasingly becoming popular due to fuel efficiency reasons. Electric cars are in high demand throughout the world an the trend is soon catching up in India where air pollution has reached alarming levels. Electric cars are simple battery operated vehicles that need no fuel but run on electricity.
Many popular brands like Mahindra and Nissan are launching their e-operated vehicles. To beat air pollution, this step is sure to make a success!
