US based charity aids Cochlear implants for siblings costing 30 lacs Children resume school post implantation

Over 3000 economically backward patients get access to cashless hospitalization in emergency medical relief

 

Hyderabad, 10th September 2018: A partnership between a USA based charity SEED USA (Support for Education & Economic development) and City-based health Care NGO, Helping Hand Foundation has aided 2 siblings from economically weaker sections with Cochlear Implantation surgery and more than 3000 patients from economically weaker sections were provided aid in Emergency Medical Relief in the city of Hyderabad in the last 5 years.

 

Two siblings, Syed Moinuddin aged 6 years and his older brother Abdul Rahman 9 years were diagnosed to have bilateral profound and irreversible hearing loss and required Cochlear Implants, were the principal beneficiaries of the partnership between the two NGOs. Born with Congenital deafness and hailing from a modest and economically weaker section the divorced mother of the siblings was not in a position to fund the huge cost of the cochlear implant surgeries since their birth.

 

The distressed family approached SEED USA through one of its relatives abroad and SEED USA, in turn, referred the cases to HHF for verification – The Cochlear implant surgery of the siblings was carried out at OZONE Hospitals under Dr. Ranga Reddy Sirigiri, Paediatric ENT Surgeon with a gap of 6 months between each sibling.

 

“We raised funds in the USA spent Rs 30 lac for both surgeries and glad that the surgeries were successful and the kids have regained their hearing and speech and have resumed going to school said Mr. Syed Mazharuddin Hussaini, Founder SEED, USA.

 

The children were provided hearing aid to the other ear costing Rs 1.5 lacs each to maintain the equilibrium and since the children were not accustomed to any form of communication they were put on speech therapy which is being presently imparted and sponsored by SEED USA.

 

Significantly through the partnership between SEED USA & HHF - in the last 5 years over 3000 patients from weaker sections were provided aid for Emergency Medical Relief in Hyderabad.

 

1700 patients were aided partly or fully for emergency in-patient management in three private teaching hospitals, Owaisi Hospital (OHRC), Princess Esra Hospital & Princess Dure Shevar Hospital through a tie-up with these hospitals, patients were given cashless hospitalization the same way it works in Health Insurance with a patient having to pay nothing.

 

50% of the cases were pertaining to road accidents, burn injuries and other traumas, another 30% were medical emergencies in patients with diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and chronic kidney failure, rest 20% were medical cases related to women during pregnancy and reproductive health “said Mr. Mujtaba Hasan Askari of Helping Hand Foundation.

 

305 patients were supported for elective surgeries like hysterectomies, appendicitis, renal stone removal, gallbladder, obstetrics and gynecology etc, other 1000patients were provided medicines on need basis for their ailments and 55 patients were provided a prosthesis, hip implants, air beds, walkers etc.  A total amount of Rs 1.05 Crores was donated as GRANTS to Helping Hand Foundation for medical relief by SEED, the USA in the last 5 years.
