Don't Let UV Rays Ruin Your Summer
While summer can be a delightful time to be alive, it also brings with it a host of problems.
One of these problems is the damage inflicted on your skin. Prolonged exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays can cause harmful effects, which if not treated in time, can take an ugly turn.
Skin Issues
Excessive exposure to sunlight can be harmful because of UV Rays. Sunburns and excessive tanning are a few common problems that result from overexposure to the sun. The chronic effects of UV rays can even be life threatening, including premature ageing of the skin, suppression of the immune system, damage to the eyes and skin cancer.
Hindered Body Functions
As time passes, UV radiation induces degenerative changes in cells of the skin, fibrous tissue and blood vessels, causing problems in regular body functioning. Even blood circulation is affected and people often complain of fluctuating blood pressure levels.
Blindness
UV rays are one of the main reasons for eye damage. More than 99% of UV radiation is absorbed by the anterior part of the eyes. Corneal damage and macular degeneration are chronic effects that may result from UV exposure, ultimately leading to blindness.
So how then do you make the most the sun without getting into trouble? Just read on.
Cover up - Try to cover your body as much as possible. Try tightly-woven, breathable clothing that shields you from the light and also absorbs sweat.
Befriend sunscreen - A sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15 blocks out nearly 93 percent of all UV rays. What better than a sunscreen application to beat the sunlight.
Don a hat - A hat with a large circumference is ideal—it can easily protect your neck, ears, eyes, nose, and scalp in one go. And it also adds to your fashion quotient!
So this summer, go out fully prepared and make the most of the season.
