KIMS Saveera hospital, Anantapur, in association with Andhra Pradesh Cardiological Society of India (APCSI) organized a cardiology conference in Anantapur on 20th and 21st of July. This is one of its kind events organized for the first time in Anantapurand was attended by more than 500 doctors from various parts of the state included practicing physicians, pediatricians, obstetricians, and cardiac surgeons to  emphasize that Heart diseases are the leading cause of mortality and morbidity in the country today.

 

 

During the launch of the event, Dr. Balakishore, KIMS Saveera Hospitals, said, “There is an alarming increase in the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases in India to 11percent. Heart attack and stroke contribute to 80 percent of deaths in adults, aged between 25-69 yrs. There is also an increase in heart attacks in the recent past in the Telugu speaking states and also that there is a significant increase in heart attacks in the young population i.e., <35yrs group. Hypertension, Diabetes, unhealthy diet, sedentary lifestyle, smoking and stress are the major contributors to the Increasing rise of heart attacks.

 

 

“We have organized this conference to train the practicing doctors with a better understanding of cardiovascular problems and to enlighten them regarding recent advances in the management of cardiovascular problems and also to create awareness regarding the latest tools in the diagnosis of heart diseases” he added.

 

 

In the conference, eminent cardiologists from KIMS Saveera hospital and around 30 expert speakers from all over the state participated and emphasized that blood clot retrieval and stent angioplasty performed very early after the onset of chest pain, is extremely useful in saving lives and also preserving the myocardium of patients with heart attacks.

 

 

Dr. BhaskarRao, renowned cardiac surgeon, emphasized about the advantages of bypass surgery in improving the quality of life of patients with multiple blockages in the heart, especially in those who are diabetics.

 

 

The participants were educated about the importance of CT coronary angiography as a potential tool in predicting future heart attacks. The meeting discussed the treatment options for heart diseases in pregnant women. There was an interactive session on interpretation of ECG at Primary care physician level

 

 

Dr. SudeepVerma appraised the attending young cardiologistsand pediatricians regarding the technique of closure of holes in the heart in children, with minimal access. The conference concluded with a message that cardiac transplantation will give new life to patients with heart failure. The cardiology meeting also discussed that diseases of heart rate and rhythm can be treated by pacemakers and Electro physiological study and RF ablation.

 

 

Dr. Anil Kumar DM&HO said that this two-day course has been very helpful. It covered the most difficult real case scenarios that we face in our daily practice.

 

 

“We have gained good knowledge and useful techniques which can be practiced in day-to-day cases in PHC setup” said a participant.

 

 

Till date, KIMS Saveera hospital contributed significantly to the field of cardiology in Anantapur. This is the only hospital to successfully perform 6000 cardiac procedures like angiogram, angioplasty, pacemakers implant, EP study and RF ablation and 700 bypass surgeries under the Arogya Shree scheme in Anantapur.
