Apollo honours hand surgery survivors on World Hand Surgery Day
Hyderabad, August 22: Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad, marked World Hand Surgery Day by honouring survivors whose lives were transformed through advanced hand and microsurgical procedures, highlighting the critical role of timely intervention in saving limbs and restoring function.
The programme, held at Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills, on Saturday, brought together hand surgery survivors, doctors and healthcare professionals to showcase successful outcomes achieved through complex replantation and reconstructive procedures.
Shivam Upadhyaya, DCP Traffic, Future City, who attended the event as the chief guest, felicitated the survivors and appreciated their courage and determination in overcoming severe injuries and regaining mobility.
Dr Gopinath Bandari, Consultant Hand, Wrist and Microsurgeon, said replantation was a race against time and required specialised expertise, advanced technology and close coordination among multidisciplinary teams. Such procedures can help restore not only the appearance of an injured limb but also movement, sensation and functional ability.
“Our objective is not merely to save a hand, but to help patients return to the life they value, regain independence and live with confidence,” he said.
Dr Bandi Sahithya, Consultant Hand, Wrist and Microsurgeon, said microsurgical replantation demanded precision, expertise and speed. “Every minute matters in these cases. A skilled team, advanced technology and seamless coordination are essential for achieving the best possible outcome,” she said.
Tejesvi Rao Veerepalli, CEO, Apollo Hospitals, Telugu States, said every hand surgery survivor represented a story of courage, resilience and hope. He said Apollo Hospitals was committed to combining advanced medical technology with clinical expertise to restore function and help patients return to normal life.
One of the survivors, who suffered an elbow-level amputation following a traumatic accident, shared his experience of undergoing complex replantation surgery at Apollo Hospitals. He gradually regained movement and functional ability in the affected limb following treatment.
The celebration underscored Apollo Hospitals Hyderabad’s commitment to specialised hand care through microsurgical expertise, innovation and patient-centred treatment, while giving survivors a platform to share their recovery journeys and inspire others facing similar traumatic injuries.
