Road safety is key to protecting brain health, say KIMS ICON doctors

Emphasising that adherence to road safety norms can significantly reduce the risk of serious brain injuries, doctors at KIMS ICON Hospital urged motorists to follow traffic regulations and adopt safe driving practices. The appeal was made during an awareness programme organised on the occasion of World Brain Day to promote road safety and brain health.

Traffic Circle Inspector S.K. Hussain and Law & Order Circle Inspector Vasu Naidu attended the programme as chief guests. Sub-Inspectors Shantaram and Krishna were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. C.H. Vijay, Dr. Manasa, Dr. Nikhil Nagireddy, Dr. K.A. Naidu, Dr. Remvath and Dr. Jagadeesh said that road accidents frequently result in severe head injuries, leading to traumatic brain damage, intracranial bleeding and blood clots. Such injuries, they noted, can cause paralysis, speech impairment, memory loss and other long-term neurological disabilities. They stressed that timely medical intervention during the critical "golden hour" following an accident can substantially improve survival and recovery. The doctors also advised motorists to avoid overspeeding and reckless driving.

Addressing the gathering, Traffic CI S.K. Hussain urged two-wheeler riders to wear certified helmets and all occupants of four-wheelers to use seat belts. Strict compliance with traffic rules, he said, is essential to reducing road accidents and preventing serious injuries.

Law & Order CI Vasu Naidu observed that head injuries sustained in road accidents often have lifelong consequences for victims and their families. He appreciated KIMS ICON Hospital for organising public awareness initiatives aimed at promoting responsible road behaviour and protecting brain health.
