Mallareddy Narayana Multi Speciality Hospital successfully treated 1st case of May Thurner syndrome reported in young active male at AP and Telangana
We are very happy to share a novel procedure, May Thurner syndrome which is commonly seen in females. Here We present the 1st case of May Thurner syndrome reported in young active male at AP and Telangana, & 10th case in the country with similar presentation. The patient Mr.RAJULAPATI HIMA SEKHAR
26 / M Suffering from left Ileo-Femoral DVT for the last 2 months . presented with progressive left lower leg swelling with pain and was diagnosed with left leg Deep venous thrombosis and managed with blood thinners for 2 months in his home town, But his symptoms progressed. Later he was referred to Mallareddy Narayana Multispeciality Hospital and was evaluated by specialist Interventional Radiologist , Dr. Mahesh Kumar Thumu and expertise diagnosis was made of May Thurner syndrome with Left ileo-femoral DVT( Deep venous thrombosis). In this syndrome Right common iliac artery compresses the left common iliac vein secondary to that due to venous stasis the patient develops DVT( Deep venous thrombosis). He was taken to Cath lab on emergency basis and Conventional Venography showed significant Clot burden with no flow in the left common iliac vein into IVC ( Inferior vene Cava). We performed an emergency Mechanical Thrombolysis with Thrombectomy using advanced Robotic equipment Angiojet ( Boston ) which works by powerful spray thrombolysis , followed by vacuum suction of the thrombus. The major advantage of this machine is it dissolves the hard thrombus and pulls out the thrombus without damaging the vessel wall. Post thrombus suction a metal stent was deployed across the compressed part of the left common Iliac vein. There was immediate resolution of the thrombosis and flow in the vein was retained. This type of procedure is safe without much side effects. Within 2 days post procedure the swelling is reduced and patient started to walk .
May Thurner syndrome is most commonly seen in females and in the post pregnancy stage and elderly and obese patients. Majority of them will be asymptomatic and few present with left leg Deep venous thrombosis. Early diagnosis and intervention will help the patient to avoid long term complications. ( pulmonary embolism)
Our case is a Rare presentation seen in young active male treated with world class advanced robotic equipment Intervention Techniques.
This achievement happened in Malla Reddy Narayana Multispeciality Hospital and certainly a record to notify & identify.
