KIMS Organizes a symposium on critical care management in complicated cardiac problems Eminent faculty discuss key issues in critical care management in the cardiac problems

The electrophysiology division of KIMS Hospitals, Secunderabad and Arrhythmia Research and Training Society, Hyderabad (ARTS, Hyderbad) has jointly conducted a unique symposium on critical care management in complicated cardiac problems on 13th July 2019. The objective of the symposium was to get together different specialties to treat critically ill cardiac patients. Eminentfaculty who have great expertise in cardiology, cardiac surgery, cardiac anesthesia and critical care have participated in this symposium.
The conference was attended by around 250 doctors from different specialties- cardiology, internal medicine, critical care, and anesthesia. Dr Bhaskar Rao, Managing Director of KIMS Hospitals, during the inauguration the symposium, said that in the current era, teamwork amongst different specialties sharing their expertise is vital in dealing with critically ill patients.
Course Director Dr B. Hygriv Rao, senior cardiologist and Chief of Electrophysiology, KIMS Hospitals enumerated the important issues discussed in this meeting. He explained that few patients with heart attack even after undergoing timely angioplasty or receiving clot busters may face issues like heart failure, low blood pressure, or arrhythmias. These problems contribute to the high in-hospital mortality of these patients. Cardiologists and ICU doctors caring for these patients need to be conversant with latest protocols of medications and to use current technology available to save their lives. He said that the latest gadgets like ECMO and Ventricular assist devices have helped to prolong lives of seriously ill patients. The use of these devices was discussed and explained to delegates by experts.
