MAKE-UP REMOVAL – AN ESSENTIAL NIGHTTIME RITUAL
You’ve heard the advice, but you’re probably too tired to follow it night after night. Yet this is important to maintain your good looks – take off your make-up! Think about your skin, andstay awake long enough to follow through with your daily cleansing routine.
The fact is, you may be doing more harm to your skin by sleeping with your make-up on. It’s probably been on for several hours and you can imagine how it’s clogging your pores and mingling with dust and pollution to create havoc with your complexion. Make-up and oil buildup can cause breakouts, infections, rashes, enlarged pores, wrinkles and dull complexion, and that’s why it’s worth splashing some cold water on your eyes when you’re tired, and taking a few minutes to cleanse your skin.
It’s hard to think that something like makeup, which enhances your beauty, can actually mar your looks if you keep it on while you sleep. Foundation and concealer can bring on pimples when they clog the pores and trap bacteria which then cause acne. Lip gloss and lipstick, which contain wax that clogs pores, can cause breakouts too, if not washed off before you sleep. Lipstick is often responsible for causing acne around your lip area.
Sleeping with mascara or eyeliner on, can lead to clogged eyelid pores, and cause a stye. If makeup goes in your eye, this can cause inflammation, or worse still, an infection, so it’s worth taking the time to gently wash off your eye makeup, so as to protect and preserve your eyes.
Did you know that sleeping with your makeup on can cause your skin to age? Whereas clean skin has room to breathe and rejuvenate overnight. While you sleep, Melatonin in your skin fights fine lines, and hormones help collagen producing cells to enhance elasticity and tightness. If you’re sleeping with your makeup on, pollution collects on the skin and breaks down collagen, thus leading to wrinkling and dull skin.
Spare a few minutes at night for your skin and stay looking good!
