HEALTH AND HAPPINESS FOR SENIOR CITIZENS ON TELANGANA ELECTION DAY

When every vote is precious, and every citizen has a vital role to play in the election process, it is heartening to see how the Election Commission showed caring and respect for Senior Citizens on polling day.

Wherever crowds converge, there is always the fear that those most vulnerable to health hazards can contract infections, but every aspect was systematically taken care of during the elections. Queues moved quickly so that people were not made to stand for long periods of time, and elders were treated with the respect they deserve.

For the most senior in age amongst us, going out to vote can be a daunting task, but the facilities that were offered to make the process smooth and convenient, really gave joy to every senior citizen eager to cast their vote.

The Welthi Team was at Kongarakalan, Ibrahimpatnam Constituency, where they were impressed and delighted to see that every Senior Citizen was given individual attention. Smt. L. Parijathamma, a resident of Kongarakalan, says, “I was shown so much care and concern by the staff at the polling booth, who took me in a wheelchair to cast my vote. I just want to express my gratitude and appreciation to them for providing such a wonderful facility. If not for the wheelchair, it would have been very difficult for me.”

It is important to include Senior Citizens in every aspect of daily life, as feeling useful is one way to keep them feeling well. Elders often plunge into a state of depression if not given enough care and companionship, so the Election Commission actually demonstrated how committed we Indian citizens are, to the wellbeing and welfare of our elders.
