Glow with good health the Greek Yogurt way !
Greek Gods. Greek Tragedies. There’s another famous product of Greece;Greek Yogurt!
Made from sheep’s milk, it’s strained yogurt from which whey has been removed. It’s thick, creamy with a sour flavor that shows up in several Greek delicacies including the famous Tzatziki dip.
What are some health benefits of Greek Yogurt?
As Dr Saurabh Arora, MD (Auriga research and Director at Arbo Pharmaceuticals) and founder of Food Safety Health line explains, with single serving of Greek Yogurt for breakfast you stay fighting fit the whole day and here’s why:
Enjoy those proteins! In case you didn’t know, proteins repair the body, build muscles and help maintain good health. As we grow older, our body needs extra protein to keep skin healthy and fight off infections. A single serving of Greek Yogurt has15-20 gm which is equal to 2-3 ounces of lean meat. In other words, you can reap the benefits of protein without having to rely on heavy-to-digest food items like meat.
Knock off those pesky pounds! Again because it’s rich in proteins, it makes you feel fuller for a longer period of time. So you can keep those hunger pangs between meals at bay and stick to your weight loss diet. Also the iodine present in it will scale up your metabolic process and help you burn off those extra calories!
Beat those bowel infections! Whether you suffer from a urinary tract infection, vaginal yeast infection, diarrhea or an irritable bowel syndrome, here’s a one stop remedy for all ailments. The probiotics (good bacteria) present in Greek Yogurt can help you get rid of the “bad bacteria” from your gut!
Pump up that energy! Greek Yogurt is packed with Vitamin-B which will help boost up your energy levels as well as ensure your immune, cardiovascular, and nervous systems function properly. Enjoy an energetic start each morning by mixing Greek yogurt with fresh fruits, nuts and enjoy the power combo of Vitamins A, B & C all at one go!
Build strong bones & teeth! Greek Yogurt provides 20% of the recommended dietary allowance of calcium (RDA) needed to build strong bones, teeth & hair. It also carries the added advantage of containing lesser amounts of sodium vis-à-vis potassium.
Feast on this quick post work out snack! Take Greek Yogurt, add crushed walnuts and berries to it and let those amino acids repair and regenerate those worn out muscle tissues after a strenuous workout session.
Make it at home! It’s incredibly simple to make and here’s how you can do it:
With Yogurt :
Take a strainer or wire mesh with cheese cloth, pour the yogurt over it.
Strain out the excess water and place the cheese cloth with yogurt over a bowl and secure the sides with rubber bands.
Refrigerate it for 2-4 hours to allow the whey to get separated; what you land up with is Greek Yogurt!
With Milk :
Use low- fat milk and heat it up. Let the milk cool at room temperature for about an hour and add 2 tablespoons of live culture and keep it in the oven at 108 degree for 4-12 hours.
Refrigerate for 2-4 hours and strain it to get thick yogurt.
