Apollo Cardiologists demonstrate ‘CTO PCI’ for over cardiologists
Hyderabad, 19th July 2018: Cardiologists at Apollo Hospitals- Dr. V. Surya Prakasa Rao, Dr P. L. N Kapardhi and team- gave a live demo of a minimally invasive cardiac surgical procedure to over 1000 cardiologists, from around the world, attending the Japan CTO Congress held at Nagoya, Japan.
This is the first time that Indian cardiologists demonstrated complex CTO PCI procedures live to cardiologists in Japan, from where the procedure originated.
Hardened blocks in the heart’s arteries are conventionally treated by performing bypass surgery. However, Chronic Total Occlusion Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (CTO PCI), enables such blocks to be cleared by avoiding surgery, and common surgical complications associated with it. Additionally, recovery takes less time with the procedure as opposed to surgery.
Dr. Rao and Dr. Kapardhi have made significant contributions in the finetuning of the technique, working and interacting with Japanese specialists over the past 6 years. They have also helped train several cardiologists in India perform the procedure.
