Sri Sri Holistic Hospitals Turns World Heart Day Into a Movement, Launches “Heart Attack Free Society for the Neighbourhood” in Kondapur

*HYDERABAD, SEPTEMBER 27, 2026:* Before the sun was fully up over Kondapur, the courtyard outside Sri Sri Holistic Hospitals, Masjidbanda, was already busy: T-shirts being handed out, a Zumba warm-up loosening legs, nearly 200 riders checking their bikes for a 10-km ride organised in partnership with cycling community Bike-O-Holics. It was World Heart Day, and the hospital chose to mark it not with a seminar behind closed doors but with a Cyclothon that rolled out at 6:30 AM and pulled the whole neighbourhood in.
The morning carried more than a ride. Sri Sri Holistic Hospitals used it to launch its “*Heart Attack Free Society for the Neighbourhood”* initiative, and to introduce Kondapur to CT Coronary Artery Calcium (CTCAC) Score Screening, a scan that can flag silent, calcified plaque building up inside the coronary arteries years before a person ever feels a symptom. As part of the launch, 1,000 eligible residents aged 40 and above were offered this screening free of cost, along with a cardiology consultation, subject to eligibility.
That number matters because heart disease so rarely announces itself in advance. Most people discover a blocked artery only after chest pain sends them to an emergency room, by which point prevention is no longer an option. The initiative’s premise was simple and urgent: catch the risk while it can still be managed, not after it becomes an emergency.
The turnout reflected exactly the mix the initiative was built for. Around fifty to seventy-five neighbourhood residents rode alongside close to a hundred members of local cycling clubs, with roughly fifty doctors and hospital staff pedalling in the same stretch of road as their patients. The 10-km route carried them past Aparna Serene, HCU, Gachibowli Junction and AMB Mall, looped through Botanical Garden, and brought everyone back to the hospital gates within the hour.
*Sri G. Hanmantha Rao*, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, attended as Chief Guest, addressing participants on the importance of heart health and an active lifestyle before flagging off the ride at 6:30 AM. He returned as riders crossed back in to take part in the medal distribution that followed, handing finisher medals to cyclists of every age. *Prof. Dr. V. S. Ramchandra*, Chief Cardiologist & Electrophysiologist and Chairman of Sri Sri Holistic Hospitals, *Dr. Tushara Aluri,* Managing Director, *Dr. Subbarao*, Medical Director, and *Mr. Giri Babu*, Chief Operating Officer, were present throughout the ride, the launch and the medal ceremony.
“The purpose of this initiative was to encourage people to understand their cardiovascular health before symptoms became a concern,” said *Prof. Dr. V. S. Ramchandra*, Chief Cardiologist & Electrophysiologist and Chairman, Sri Sri Holistic Hospitals. “By bringing preventive screening and cardiology consultation closer to the community, we wanted to create greater awareness around cardiovascular risk and the importance of timely evaluation.”
*Dr. Tushara Aluri,* Managing Director, Sri Sri Holistic Hospitals, framed it as a shift in mindset.
“Heart health was not something that needed attention only after a problem appeared,” she said. “This initiative brought people together to focus on awareness, prevention and informed health decisions, while encouraging eligible members of the community to take a closer look at their cardiovascular health.”
*Dr. Subbarao,* Medical Director, Sri Sri Holistic Hospitals, highlighted the importance of making preventive healthcare accessible within the community.
“Preventive cardiology is about identifying risk early and giving people the opportunity to take informed action before a serious cardiac event occurs. Through this initiative, we are taking cardiovascular awareness and screening closer to the community and encouraging eligible individuals to understand their heart health proactively rather than waiting for symptoms to appear.”
*Mr. Giri Babu*, Chief Operating Officer, Sri Sri Holistic Hospitals, spoke about the community-driven nature of the initiative.
“The response from the Kondapur community has been extremely encouraging. Bringing together residents, cycling groups, doctors and hospital teams on a single platform shows how community participation can make health awareness more meaningful. Our objective is to build a sustained culture of prevention where people regularly pay attention to their health, fitness and cardiovascular risk.”
Between the flag-off and the finish line, the hospital also walked residents through what the CT Calcium Score does: a non-invasive scan that helps doctors detect calcified plaque in the coronary arteries, feeding into a fuller clinical evaluation of cardiovascular risk. Residents unsure whether the test applied to them were encouraged to raise it directly with a qualified healthcare professional.
By the time medals had been handed out, the morning closed over breakfast, with cyclists, doctors and residents still talking, the ride behind them and, for several, a screening appointment newly booked ahead. In pairing fitness, screening and professional consultation into a single Sunday morning, Sri Sri Holistic Hospitals turned a global health observance into something local and immediate: a neighbourhood in Kondapur choosing, together, to know its own heart health before it had to.
