Lilavati Hospital through its Sewa Department as Part of the Menaben Helping Hands Initiative Conducted A Free Mega Cardiac Screening Camp For Underprivileged Patients

Mumbai - Lilavati Hospital, through its Sewa Department, conducted a Free Cardiac Screening Camp for underprivileged patients as part of the Menaben Helping Hands initiative. This program aimed to provide essential cardiac health services to those who might not otherwise have access.
The camp, held at the hospital’s facilities, offered free tests such as cholesterol and triglycerides assessments, electrocardiograms (ECGs), blood pressure evaluations, consultations with cardiologists, medication, and yoga consultations all held within the hospital premises ensuring the patient’s comfort and convenience. This camp witnessed the participation of over 300 underprivileged patients.
Dr Vidya Suratkal, Senior Cardiologist, Lilavati Hospital Mumbai said, “There is a alarming increase in cardiovascular diseases, including heart attacks, heart failures, and sudden cardiac arrests, arrhythmias, angina, coronary artery disease (CAD), cardiomyopathy, heart valve disease which are causing economic, social and health loss across the country. These life-threatening conditions are responsible for the deaths of millions of individuals. Unfortunately, awareness about such cardiac emergencies is lacking among the underprivileged section. On this World Heart Day free camp held at Lilavati Hospital many patients were first time diagnosed with heart issues like raised cholesterol, hypertension and angina. Many were also aware of their heart health but due to poor financial conditions, they were unable to follow up with proper medication and tests. Lilavati Hospital provided medicines for BP(Blood Pressure) control, high cholesterol levels, and heart conditions to many of these underprivileged patients several children attended the camp, There was one girl child who attended the camp and was diagnosed with congenital heart diseases, viz a hole in her heart. She will be further investigated and surgery will be done completely free of cost in Lilavati Hospital. Other patients who needed further tests (to diagnose their heart conditions) like stress test,echo and may require angiography, angioplasty or CABG, necessary medicines would be given totally free of cost on the behest of Lilavati Hospital.
Dr Abhishek Shah, Cardiologist, Lilavati Hospital Mumbai said, "Many patients who came for treatment in this camp have been diagnosed with diabetes through blood test. Apart from this, some patients were suffering from heart disease for many years. Both young children and the elderly have been screened in this camp. Mostly 50% of the patients who come for treatment in this camp suffer from high cholesterol. These patients have been given free medicines according to their ailments and body weight."

According to them, World Heart Day is an important occasion that focuses on heart health, particularly in light of the concerning rise in heart-related problems including in youngsters throughout India. A 56-year-old Nerul resident Sunil Choughule said, " I came to know about the free cardiac screening camp at Lilavati Hospital and decided to visit it. My blood test and ECG were done which turned out to be normal and it was done completely free of cost. I was happy to know that my heart is functioning normally and will follow the vital tips given by the expert such as regular check-ups, watching my diet, and exercising regularly. Lilavati Hospital is supporting not only me but all the other attendees in the camp and the Hospital staff here is taking utmost care of all of us. The cardiac screening camp organized at Lilavati Hospital was offered at free cost, whereas undergoing similar tests at other hospitals can be quite expensive. A 22-year-old Mansi Parab who came all the way from Vengurla, a town in the Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra to attend the camp said "I have been diagnosed with heart problem since childhood. It has been managed all the years, and I have been doing well all these years. After learning about the free cardiac screening camp at Lilavati Hospital, I decided to attend it with my mother. We are touched by the facilities, services, and exceptional advice offered to us by the renowned experts at Lilavati Hospital. The Hospital staff took care of us during the camp.
