KIMS Kondapur Doctors Save Life of man Airlifted from Africa

Kakinada native settled in Ghana as a businessman

* Diagnosed with malaria, dengue and later severe sepsis

* Airlifted to Hyderabad in critical condition on ventilator support

* Recovers after 23 days of intensive multi-disciplinary care

Hyderabad, June 7, 2025: Sixty-year-old Uday, originally from Kakinada, had been living in Ghana, West Africa, for over two decades as a successful businessman. His life took a critical turn when he was diagnosed with falciparum malaria. His condition further deteriorated due to sepsis and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), leaving him unable to breathe without life support.

Realizing the grave situation, doctors in Ghana contacted specialists at KIMS Hospitals, Kondapur. Following their advice, Uday was placed on a ventilator and transported via a special air ambulance from Ghana to Hyderabad. This complex medical evacuation was meticulously planned and executed by Dr. D.V. Rama Krishna and the medical operations team at KIMS Kondapur.

Upon arrival, Uday was immediately admitted to the hospital and treated under the supervision of Dr. Ravisekhar Reddy, Head of Internal Medicine, and Dr. Pankaj, Critical Care Consultant. The doctors revealed that Uday was airlifted while on ventilator support at 35,000 feet altitude in a chartered flight, a journey that lasted over 16 hours.

“This was a highly challenging mission. Our internal medicine and critical care teams worked relentlessly to stabilize the patient. Over 24 days, we provided international-standard intensive care across multiple specialties. His recovery is nothing short of a miracle,” said Dr. RavisekharReddy.
