Around 13% of babies born in India are premature, defined as being born before 37 completed weeks says Dr at Prematurity Day Celebration at Motherhood Hospital

Motherhood Hospitals, Navi Mumbai, proudly hosted a successful World Prematurity Day celebration. This event brought together parents and healthcare professionals to raise awareness about preterm birth and the significance of specialized neonatal care, all while enjoying a day filled with fun activities.

The World Prematurity Day event was a resounding success, featuring a variety of engaging activities for children, including a fancy-dress competition, magic shows, mascot appearances, musical performances, and heartfelt felicitations for preterm survivors. The day concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony and the distribution of prizes and return gifts, attracting 15premature infants and their parents.

“Around 13% of babies born in India are premature, defined as being born before 37 completed weeks,” stated Dr. Anish Pillai, Lead Consultant of Neonatology and Pediatrics at Motherhood Hospitals, Kharghar, Navi Mumbai. “Babies delivered at less than 28 weeks of gestation are categorized as extremely preterm. Caring for these vulnerable infants presents significant challenges and often necessitates extended stays in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Thanks to advancements in medical technology—such as incubator care, advanced ventilation techniques, parenteral nutrition, and bedside ultrasound—the survival rates for preterm infants have improved markedly.”

“The trust and gratitude expressed by parents of children who have received care at Motherhood Hospitals reflect the unwavering commitment and expertise of our healthcare team,” said Dr. Rupali Kadam, Facility Director at Motherhood Hospitals, Kharghar, Navi Mumbai. “We are privileged to provide life-saving care to these young patients, many of whom were born prematurely or faced other critical health challenges. The motive behind organizing this fun-filled event was not only to celebrate the resilience of preterm infants and their families but also to foster a sense of community and support. We believe that while medical care is vital, creating joyful and engaging experiences helps strengthen the bond between families and healthcare providers.”

This event served as a crucial platform to educate parents and the community about preterm birth and the essential role of specialized neonatal care. As we move forward, we remain steadfast in our commitment to providing the highest quality care to preterm infants and supporting their families throughout this journey. Together, we can continue to raise awareness and improve outcomes for these fragile lives.
