Male contraceptive medicine research in final clinical trial
“India is the only country in the world to reach Phase 3 clinical trials in male contraceptive medicine. No other country has achieved this distinction”, said Prof. N.K. Lohiya, ISSRF President at the inaugural session of first World Congress on Reproductive Health.
Addressing a gathering of scholars, scientists, Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, Assisted Reproductive Specialists, Embryologists, Veterinarians, Social Scientists, demographers, and policy makers from academic as well as other verticals at the Indian Institute of Chemical Technolgy (CSIR), Prof. Lohiya said “In the last four decades, scientists from across the world have attempted this but only India has the distinction of reaching the Phase 3 of clinical trials. India tremendously contributed in manifold ways in the field of reproductive health, he added.
Speaking on the occasion Secretary General of FOGSI (Federation of Obstetric & Gynaecological Societies of India) Dr. Hrishikesh D. Pai urged field experts in reproductive health to act unrestricted with positive competitive spirit and share their knowledge on global platforms. He urged them to “be more aggressive in translating clinical research into implementation”. Although India has the technology and knowledge on reproductive health, it has restricted itself at the global level, he added.
Chief Guest and Chairman of Talwar Research Foundation 91-year old Prof. G.P. Talwar advised participants and delegates to “take a wider look at the issues of reproductive health. These issues, he said, are “ramifications on the health of the family, society, and the country, at large”. He also appreciated the prominent representation of sessions on Invitro Fertilization at the World Congress.
Earlier, Organizing Secretary of First World Congress on Reproductive Health and Director of Maternal Health and Research Trust (MHRT) and Dr. Roya Rozati (center) inaugurated the first World Congress on Reproductive Health and 28th Annual Meeting of ISSRF by ceremonially lighting the lamp in the presence of ISSRF President Prof. N.K. Lohiya, Secretary General of FOGSI Dr. Hrishikesh Pai, Chairman of Local organizing Committee Dr. P.P. Reddy and Dr. R. S. Sharma, Secretary of ISSRF at Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR) in Hyderabad on Friday evening.
The 21st issue of the ISSRF annual newsletter was also released on this occasion.
The maiden edition of the World Congress on Reproductive Health is organized by Maternal Health and Research rust (MHRT) and convened jointly with the 28th Annual Meet of the Indian Society for the Study of Reproductive and fertility (ISSRF).
Reviewing advances in the field of reproductive health, identifying emerging challenges and discussions to frame appropriate strategies for family planning, infertility and assisted reproduction, were also discussed.
Dr. Kamal Bakshi, Apollo Hospitals (New Delhi) and Dr. C. V. Rao, Florida International University (USA) were presented with Lifetime Achievement Awards for their pioneering efforts and immense contribution in the field of reproductive health.​
