HALT THE PROGRESSION OF VIRAL INFECTION
Viral fever is any fever that is caused by any underlying viral infection or illness. A low-grade fever is a symptom of many viral infections. It can range in temperature from 99°F to over 103°F (39°C). It all depends upon the nature of the virus. Recognition of specific causes is imperative for early treatment. Viruses are very small infectious agents. They infect and multiply within the cells of your body. A fever is your body’s way of fighting off a virus. It is important to protect oneself and your family from this contagious illness.
Dr.Suresh Passi, general physician of Passi Hospital, Faridabad shares precautionary measures to restrain the spread of viral infections.
Possible ways in which you get infected by a virus:
Inhalation: It is common to breathe in the virus-infected droplets when someone affected with viral infection coughs or sneezes near you. Especially in cases of Flu or a common cold.
Ingestion: Consumption of contaminated food or drink can augment viral infection.
Bites: Insects and animals can carry this virus. Their bites can also transfer the infection.
Body fluids: Exchanging bodily fluids with someone who has a viral infection can transfer the illness.
Preventive measures:
Drink clean water.
Use a handkerchief while sneezing or coughing and move away from people before coughing or sneezing.
Use mosquito repellents and nets
Keep your nails clean: Viruses that cause colds can enter your body this way and make you sick.
Stay hydrated: Replenish fluids lost while sweating.
Get adequate sleep, as lack of sleep lowers the immune functions of the body. Take plenty of rest.
Regularly wash your hands: Viruses can live in your hands. Washing your hands for at least 20 seconds is a must. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
Preventive measures for kids:
Keep children away from those having an infection.
Infected hands should be kept clean to prevent the transfer of germs.
It is advised to eat healthy and nutritious food.
Disinfect frequently touched surfaces and objects, such as toys and doorknobs.
Check with a doctor if the fever persists.
Treatment for Viral Infection:
In case of a viral infection, symptomatic treatment is given such as paracetamol or ibuprofen, which is advised in case of high fever.
Cold sponging of a person should be given in a high-grade fever.
Keep the person hydrated.
Follow a light and nutritious diet.
Get a good night’s rest.
