Century Hospitals takes an initiative to create awareness in handling patients with burns
Century hospitals conducted a CME for the Doctors on the advanced techniques in the treatment of burns. This program was held with an aim to create awareness and educate regarding the handling and care tips for burns patients at the initial stage and also following due course of action.
Approximately more than 60 doctors from Corporate Hospitals, Govt. Hospitals such as Osmania & Gandhi graced this event. This initiative taken by Century hospitals emphasized mainly on the specialists from critical care, plastic surgery, general surgery and anesthesia to keep them abreast in the advances of the treatment and care.
The three scientific sessions incorporated as a part of the CME encompasses various topics such as resuscitation, the importance of first few hours (Golden Hour), pre-operative aspects, pain management, holistic care, nutritional support, and approach. The presentation was followed by a one-on-one interactive yet brainstorming session and the response from the participants was equally overwhelming.
The Doctors not only been the participants, rather they came forward to present a case of a young patient, Mr. Ashok (26 years), who was admitted to Century Critical care unit with 65% mixed Burns. Post-primary resuscitation, he was moved to Burns Unit in the same hospital and been under the supervision of Dr. Bala Subramanyam, Dr. Kamesh, and Dr. Sunil T Pandya. The patient was in Burns unit and discharged in 35 days safely after complete recovery.
The speakers of the program included renowned names like Dr. Sunil M Keswani, Consultant Plastic, Cosmetic and Burns Surgeon, Acting Medical Director at National Burns Center, Hon’ble secretary of Burns Association of India; Dr. Venu Gopal Kaukuntala, Managing Director, Consultant – Laparoscopic Surgeon; Dr. Sunil T Pandya, Director of Anesthesia, Pain Medicine, Surgical & Obstetric critical care; Dr. KV Kamesh, Director -Medical ICU; Dr. B. Ravinder Reddy, Consultant GI and General Surgeon; Dr. Kamal Kiran, Consultant Nephrologist & Transplant surgeon; Dr. YV Sadhana, Consultant Clinical microbiologist; Dr. Praveen Kumar, Consultant Surgeon; Dr. Kiran Kumar, Sr. Consultant – Dept. of Anesthesia, pain medicine, surgical & obstetric critical care.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Hemanth Kaukuntla, Vice Chairman, Century Hospitals said, “Burns is a common cause of injury presenting to the Emergency Department. One thing is crystal clear; the treatment of burns is a serious teamwork among experts. Together, critical care experts, surgeons, anesthesiologist, nurses, technicians and others decide the further treatment after the primary revival of the patient. Every minute during the treatment counts and hence, it is very important for the doctors in this field to be updated regarding the latest tips and tricks to save the patient’s life.”
The program ended successfully with the distribution of certificates and the doctors who attended the program confessed that events like these not only throw light on latest advances but also give them an opportunity to meet and interact with the best-experienced doctors in the field, who serve as guiding lights in future.
