The Welthi Debate On Effective Doctor-Patient Communication
Q. Why is effective communication between doctors and patients important?
Patients have time and again—in various consumer forums and one-to-one interactions for research studies—stated that doctors must communicate in a simple language, clear the fears and worries of patients, provide privacy, and not appear money-oriented.
This feedback was evaluated in a research article ‘Gaps In Doctor-Patient Communication: A Community-Based Study’, which stated that 39 percent of patients were not satisfied with the approach of the doctor and the consultation provided to them.
Welthi debates this issue and invites suggestions from doctors, patient forums and other groups who can shed constructive light on the issue to improve and strengthen doctor-patient relationships.
