HIGH FREQUENCY ULTRASOUND IS THE FUTURE OF NEUROSURGERY   KIMS Hospitals Secunderabad demonstrates Live Neurosurgery Procedure

The Neurosurgery Department at KIMS Hospitals, Secunderabad, in association with the Brain and Spine Society (BASS) organized The Asian Congress of Neurological Surgeons & World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies  (ACNS & WFNS) Foundation Live Surgery – Seminar 2019 on 16th & 17th March 2019 for Neurosurgeons across the country. Surgeons from across the State and Country, during the workshop discussed various current trending and new treatment technologies like laser treatments and HIFU practices. A total of 250 participants attended the two-day event.



With the availability of advanced technology, and in this modern era of minimal invasion, Neuroscientists, Neurosurgeons and Neurologists are exploring a promising treatment called High-intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU). This technology promises therapeutic utility for multiple neurosurgical applications, including treatment of tumours, stroke, epilepsy, and functional disorders without opening the skull.



Currently, Neurosurgeons are using Laser technology where the opening of skull is minimal. This is also a MinimallyInvasive Technique in which the exact location of damage can be targeted without any harm to the surrounding tissues, decreasing the mortality and morbidity. The outcome of the technique is far better when compared to traditional methods.



The Live Workshop aimed at giving delegates an opportunity to update themselves with the current and latest advances in Neurosurgery. The best of International and National faculty from different countries like Canada, China, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, South Africa and Vietnam have given video sessions to the participants.



Commenting on the Conference, Dr.ManasPanigrahi, Sr. Consultant Neurosurgeon, KIMS Hospitals, and Chairman of the organizing committee, said, "Our idea was to bring maximum exposure about complex-yet-advanced techniques in Neuroscience. The Conference was organized to explore the evolutionary ideas in the field of Neurosurgery. Our goal is to deliver an outstanding program that covers the entire spectrum of research and innovations; care and share the cross-cultural experiences of various treatment procedures. The live workshop was designed to expand and share global knowledge in the field, granting event attendees access to valuable content they may not otherwise have available to them."



In the two-day workshop, 6 live surgeries were performed, and 34 surgeries were video demonstrated by world renowned Neurosurgeons. This conference covered complex and rare Neurosurgery topics like Cerebral Revascularization, Cranial and Spinal Micro Neurosurgery, Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery, Cranial and Skull Base Endoscopy, Vascular Neurosurgery, along with other recent advances in the field.
