Dr Bakhtiar Choudary felicitated with International Wonder Book of Records award for developing sustainable green solutions
Prof. Maj S Bakhtiar Choudary, city based well-known senior sports medicine doctor of the country, was awarded the International Wonder Book of Records and Genius Book of Records, for creating a unique world record of collecting rare and diverse species of plants, over the last 40 years. Dr Bakhtiar received the award from the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor of EFLU, Prof E Suresh Kumar at a glittering ceremony, today at Begumpet. Also present on the occasion were Dr Natrajan, President, Indian Red cross society and Co-ordinator Genius book of World Records; Dr Laxmikamth Rathod, Principal, Nizam College; Prof Rajesh Kumar, Principal Physical Education College, Osmania University; Parody Guruswamy, Stand-up Comedian and Dr Bingi Narender Goud, Co-ordinator Wonder Book of World records, amongst others.
Dr Bakhtiar's passion for flora and fauna made him to create space within his 150 sq yard plot, for an ecosystem of coexistence with the nature in the urban jungle. He shares his small residential plot with more than 100 varieties of 786 rare plants, ageing between 4-40 years. Some of the rare species include Clove, Pepper, Coffee, Bay leaf, Orchid species, Staghorn fern, Tree fern, Bodhi and many Bonsai trees. The plant density in his yard enabled to reduce noise pollution by 10 dB, for his family from the adjacent main road. Water bodies with variety of Lilies and lotus and varieties of fish growing by feeding on these plants are acting as mosquito traps.
Dr Bakhtiar, despite his hectic schedule, has taken up this purely out of his passion to grow plants to save earth and thus motivate others, especially youth, to do their bit to save mankind from extinction. He says, the whole world is crying hoarse over climate change and has helplessly accepted its impact on human life on planet. The impending challenge is enormous; saving trees, planting trees and fighting over pollution are critical today for a better future tomorrow. Every individual bears the responsibility of his carbon print on planet, one of the major steps to tackle this problem is to plant trees and save them.
Dr Bakhtiar is a staunch believer of living in harmony with nature. He developed a self-sustaining rainwater harvest method and his family hardly depends on the municipal water. Dr Bakhtiar invented a rare process of growing plants on E- waste for the first time, which he feels will be the panacea for the world on the brink of a disaster with e-waste piling up. A man who is constantly in search of sustainable green solutions is currently doing research on de-silting of dams and rivers. Dr Bakhtiar is a founder member of Green Thumb, Pune, and was instrumental in planting more than 10000 trees till now. He published original research works on Noise pollution in Pune and Hyderabad cities.
