The event aptly named ‘STAR Cardiac Connect 2024’ is a 2-Day workshop primarily for the Surgeons in Cardiac Surgery to upgrade their knowledge in the emerging fields of Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (MICS) and to gain knowledge on Robotic Cardiac Surgery.

The much awaited event in the medical fraternity was inaugurated yesterday, here in Hyderabad under the able guidance and Directorship of PadmaShri Dr Gopichand Mannam. The event aptly named ‘STAR Cardiac Connect 2024’ is a 2-Day workshop primarily for the Surgeons in Cardiac Surgery to upgrade their knowledge in the emerging fields of Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (MICS) and to gain knowledge on Robotic Cardiac Surgery. The workshop is bringing together over 100 Cardiac Surgeons from across India and the globe, with the esteemed participation of national and international faculty from Turkey, Canada and the United States of America. The participants in the workshop will have, inter alia, numerous interactive sessions,surgery case discussions and hands-on experience with Da Vinchi Surgical Robotic System.

The Workshop was jointly inaugurated by Dr. Gopichand Mannam, Course Director and a well known CardioThoracic Surgeon, Dr. Gullapalli N Rao, Founder of LV Prasad Eye Institute and Prof. Dr. Cem Alhan, Professor Of CT Surgery, Acibadem University, Istanbul, in the august presence of numerous Cardiac Surgeons from across the country. 

Dr. Gopichand in his opening remarks pointed out that such workshops are pivotal in bridging the gap in quality cardiac care by exposing the participants to the technological advances and global best practices. He expressed the hope that the cardiac surgeons in India would gain hands-on experience through such workshops and with the knowledge of the cutting-edge technology they are bound to earn here in the workshop, would elevate patient outcomes. 

Dr. Gullapalli N Rao has exhorted the participants, the experts in medical fields, particularly the Cardiac Surgeons to keep in mind the ‘3 Hs’, which they have to practise. He explained that the 3Hs are - keeping the Head and Hands steady, and having an empathetic Heart towards the patients who come to doctors with lots of hope and confidence. He congratulated the Cardiac Department in the Star Hospitals for coming forward to conduct such a workshop which will  impart necessary competencies in the Surgeons to enhance their knowledge behind the emerging tachniques and technologies. He reminded the surgeons to expand their horizons of knowledge together with the Talent, the Technology and the Tenderness.

Prof. Dr. Cem Alhan has exhorted the participant surgeons to keep abreast with the emerging technologies of MICS and the Robotic Cardiac Surgery. He has spoken widely about his experiences in these fields. He explained that he, along with his team in Turkey has performed 614 Robotic Cardiac Surgeries and 221 MICS out of a total of 3,460 Cardiac Cases during the period 2009 to June 2024. In the study realting to 113 Cases of Robotic assisted mini CABG, he informed the surgeons that the mortality and stroke rate was absolute zero. 

Dr. Rahul Medakkar, Group Chief Executive Officer, STAR Hospitals has stated that Star Hospitals have a remarkable 99% success rate in complex cardiac surgeries. He emphasized that STAR Hospitals have a major role to play in the empowerment of new generation surgeons in Robotic Surgeries and MICS.
