CARE Hospitals, Banjara Hills, Performs Ground-breaking 20-Hour Bypass Surgery to Rescue Critically Ill Patient

Hyderabad, 9th May, 2023: A team of highly skilled doctors at CARE Hospitals, Banjara Hills, have performed a complex, high-risk heart bypass surgery, resulting in the successful rescue of a critically ill patient who was predicted with a bleak prognosis, at several other hospitals. Under the guidance of Dr. Prateek Bhatnagar, Director - Department of Cardiac Surgery, the team operated for 20 uninterrupted hours to perform the surgery, which involved a remarkable 10 bypass grafts, a feat achieved by few. 
 
The patient, 61-year-old Mr. Krishna, had severe diffuse triple vessel coronary artery disease and diabetes. The surgery was needed to restore his heart functions and ensure that every area of the heart was revascularized, a process that required double-digit bypasses. Despite the challenges presented by the ailing heart, Dr. Bhatnagar and his team persevered and never lost hope until success was achieved. The surgery, which began at 12 noon and finished at 8 AM the following day, was a remarkable feat of clinical skill, experience and unparalleled commitment to patient well-being. Three months after the surgery, Mr. Krishna's heart is pumping normally with a left ventricular ejection fraction of 60%, and he is able to do a 4-km long morning walk, daily.
