Safe Blood initiative taken by Star Hospitals

Star Hospitals took the initiative to collaborate with HvPI, National Institute of Biologicals, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India to conduct the CME on “Haemovigilance Programme of India”.

The program was to sensitize the attendees about the Haemovigilance, which is a step towards increasing the blood safety. It was conducted in the our state for the first time after the formation of Telangana.

Dr Reba Chabbra, Grade I scientist, i/c Deputy Director QC &Head of HvPI.NIB, Noida addressed the audience. Haemovigilance is the set of surveillance procedures covering the entire blood transfusion chain, from the donation and processing of blood and its components, through to their provision and transfusion to patients, and including their follow-up. The occasion was graced by the presence of Ms Annam Visala, Deputy Drugs Controller (India) Hyderabad zone Dr B Venkateswarulu Deputy Director Drug control Administration Hyd. stressed about the regulations of Blood Banks in India and urged the Blood Banks to take active participation in Haemovigilance Programme of India.

The target audience for the event included the Transfusion Medicine specialists, Clinicians, Medical officers, Technologist, Phlebotomists & Nurses. Dr Irfana Nikhat Consultant & Head Star Hospitals Blood Bank spoke on donor vigilance, stating it to be a valuable contribution in retaining the nonremunated voluntary blood donors and thus improving the blood safety. The surveillance data is monitored, analysed and researched to modify the transfusion policies, standards and guidelines, as well as to improve the processes in blood services and transfusion practices in hospitals, so as to improve patient safety.
