Hair pin removed from lung

Hair pin removed from lung
Nine-year-old Keerthana from Pattancheru swallowed a hair pin on Sunday evening while eating mango. The pin from her hair fell in the mango juice and it went into her airway and got stuck in her lungs. Since then she complained of breathing problems and the frightened child later confessed to her parents that she drank it in the juice.

The parents rushed her to Gandhi Hospital on Monday morning. The initial scan results showed that the hair pin was stuck in the lungs. A team of surgeons Dr G Sreekanth, Dr Aruna Kumari and anesthesia specialist Dr M Veeresham performed the operation and removed the pin.

Dr M Veeresham explained, “The anesthesia was given and an endoscopy carried out to find the exact position of the pin. It was then removed from the lungs surgically.” Dr G Sreekanth explained that it was in the lower airways and the bead on the pin gave its exact position from time to time and helped to move it out successfully.

The child is recovering now and stated to be stable
