E-Health And E-Aushadi Implemented In TS

e-health is a method of linking up Hospital Management Systems in the city with the Public Health Centres in the state so that the patients can be provided with the best of medical advice.

e-Aushadi is a method where the central medicine stores and surgical stores are connected with hospitals as well as public health systems so that the existing stock at every centre can be known and accordingly, the necessary medical supplies can be replenished.

A part of the Digital India Program of the Government of India, the e-health system of Telangana state has already been awarded as the best e-health initiative from ELETS group and another through Skoch group.

How Does The e-Health System Work?

e-Health is already being implemented in King Koti, Gandhi Hospital and MN Area Hospital at Malakpet. Every citizen who visits the hospital is given a Central Registration Number which is integrated with their Aadhaar and Aarogyasri services.

The Aadhaar or Arogyasri number is entered by the operator at the registration counter and the demographic details of citizens are filled in the out-patient forms as per EHR standards. After this process is completed, the patient will then be checked by the doctor at the out-patient department. All the diagnoses and treatments offered are entered online. Laboratory tests, pharmacy purchases and even investigations are available online, and the patient’s medical history is locked in this new CPR system.

The e-health check-up is then linked to the e-Aushadi system. By this, it becomes clear as to what medicines the patient has actually been prescribed. This system enables a doctor to refer a patient from one health facility to the other through the system. The patient need not carry any records from the lower level facility since his or her medical records are made available to all the health facilities that are connected to this system.

The pilot project of the TS Government has been appreciated by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare at the national level. It is already being proposed to take it up at a larger level in all hospitals in the state.
